• It has its own way of operating, its own set of rules and regulations and its own procedures.
• You have to learn how it works and how to make it work to tour advantage.

INFORMATION SOURCES

Important official sources of information include : 

• College catalog,college’s web site,academic advisor,and student newspaper.
• An important part of learning the college systems is knowing where to find needed information.

USING THE COLLEGE CATALOG

• This is your primary source of information for staying in and graduating from college.
• Be sure to obtain a current edition. It is your responsibility to know and work within the college regulations,policies and requirements to obtain a certificate/diploma/degree.
• You must be certain that you are registering for the right courses in the right sequence to fulfill requirement to obtain your certificate/diploma/degree/degree.
• A complete catalog usually provides several types of information :

i Academic rules and regulations:

•  course registration policies,grading systems,class attendance policies,academic dismissal policies

ii Degree programs and requirements:

• Degree offered and outlines of degree requirements for each major.

iii. Course descriptions:

• A brief description of each course, the number of credits, and course prerequisites (Not all courses listed are offered each semester)

iv. Student activities and special services:

• Student organizations ,club and sports, student governance system and special services.

YOUR COLLEGE ‘S WEB SITE

• Many colleges have web site on the internet that contains useful general information about the college, as well about degrees,programs and services.
• Notice that it contains such valuable information as student government,schedule planning,course and program information and financial aidCOLLEGE SERVICES

YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISER (MENTOR)

• In most colleges, each student is assigned an academic adviser.
• Your academic adviser's primary function is to help you select appropriate courses and make certain that you meet all requirements for your degree.
• Meet with your adviser early in the semester and get to know him or her. Many adviser had e-mail addresses.often you can use e-mail schedule an appointment with him to ask question.

STUDENT NEWSPAPER

• The student newspaper is another useful source of information.
• Its provides a student perspective on issues,problems,and concerns on campus.
• It may also contain important announcements and list upcoming events.

COLLEGE SERVICES

• Check to see exactly what services are offered on your campus:

        i.what services does the student health office offer?
       ii. List five student organizations sponsored by the college. 

      iii. In what intercollegiate sports does the college participate?

CLASSROOM SUCCESS TIPS

• Attend all classes
• Get acquainted with faculty
• Keep up with assignments
• Form a study group
• Project a positive attitude and mindset 
• Take action if you are in the wrong class (add-drop)
• Purchase recommended materials
• Take action when you miss an important exam or deadline
• Get involved with college life
